    What to do? (Was tun?)

    Hello,

I apologize for the English. I'll be in Germany for about 9 months for work. I've enrolled in a language class but I've only had about a month of slow paced classes. (I hope to continue with the classes though. I may be bouncing back and forth from America so it would be useful, and I'd be very proud to learn a second language. It's impressive how almost everyone here knows at least 2 languages)

Anyway, I take Vyvanse, which I know is not approved in Germany, but I'm hoping to have a doctor prescribe Concerta. I've seen a primary doctor but he referred me to a neurologist. I currently have 2 appointments set up, but they're both over a month away, and my current prescription will run out this weekend. What can I do? If a doctor's office says 'ambulanz' does that mean I can do a walk in?

I do have a paper prescription for the Vyvanse from America, which also has all my doctor's information on it. I also have my record from my last physical with all the values from my bloodwork. Would I need anything else?

I'm very new here so I have no clue what to do, or what's considered typical. I'm kind of stressing about this, and all information/advice is very much appreciated.

    Thank you!

Also I'm in Erlangen if anyone has any regional experience.

AW: What to do? (Was tun?)

    Hello RMEngr,

maybe from Nürnberg bzw. Erlangen I can recommend you this adress:

ADHS-Deutschland - Dr. med. Klaus Skrodzki

    Dr. Klaus Skrodzki I mean

The society as well as the public health system is unfortunately rather hostile regarding ADHD when compared to e.g. the US. You will not find many doctors, say specialists on adhd within one single region. Of course Nürnberg is a big city with many doctors. I personally am not acquainted with the doctors in Nürnberg-region. I would rather go to a psychiatrist who is open to adhd treatment. Usually, you will have to document before the doctor, that you have an adhd diagnosis. Unfortunately, approximately 60% of psychiatrists in Germany doubt even the existence of adhd and by pronouncing the word you make many of them your enemy.

I can also give you this link , maybe you´ll find further expertise on adhd specialists and on doctors willing to perscribe adhd meds without major effort in Nürnberg-region there:

    ADHS-Deutschland - Home

plus: tell the doctor, that you have been treated with stimulants for a longer time in the US and that your adhd diagnosis and adhd treatment with stimulants is according to clinical guidelines and done by adhd specialists in the US.

plus: General practitioners are not allowed to prescribe adhd meds on public cost. But they can prescribe adhd meds to you privately, which means you have to pay the full price on your own. I can else only recommend you to google e.g. "ärzte adhs nürnberg" or e.g. "allgemeinmediziner nürnberg ritalin"....you will else most likely not get a visit to a psychiatrists within days, so in order to get short-term adhd / stimulant prescription you will have to go to a general practitioner (Allgemeinmediziner) , Good Luck

Sorry, I hadn´t read your post completely, didn´t see you already have appointments.

Concerta is in contrary to Vyvanse no problem in Germany. I myself have been taking it for over ten years.

    Hi,
quick addition: "Ambulanz" doesn't generally designate a walk-in ordinance that would be "Notfall-Ambulanz",sadly,you'll still need to make an appointment.:

All the best to you and a wonderful time in old Europe.

Dr. Klaus Skrodzki is in Forcheim, which is approximately 10 to 20 km north of Erlangen

Shit, Dr. Skrodzki is a pedatrician, I am gradually embarrassing me :-)

Ok, as I said, one can otherwise only recommend you to google general practioners adhd (in german of course) in Nürnberg region

I don't mind switching to Concerta. Even though Vyvanse/Elvanse works for me, I've been reading a lot of good things about it.

This is all good information. Thank you everyone! The more I can learn the better.
